What does Hi mean?
Probably a variant of the Middle English "Hy" or "Hey", which is an exclamation to greet or call attention.
Other definitions of Hi:
- A non-formal introduction that is a shortened "Hey" or "Hello". Very casual.
- A derivative of "Hej" from old Norsk, which later became "Hey" in Middle English, which is used to get someone's attention.

Hi:
Person 1) Hello. Nice to meet you.
Person 2) Hi.Hi. How are ya?
I'm pretty sure they didn't see me, so I just kept saying "Hi" until they acknowledged me.
